A Las Vegas doctor has been accused of forging prescriptions for controlled substances. As a result, the Nevada State Medical Board has suspended his license.
A complaint was filed against Dr. Kent A Swaine that stated that he posed as a dead person for a period of 2 years and wrote prescriptions for controlled substances or dangerous drugs. He would bring the prescriptions to a Las Vegas pharmacy to be filled, offering a photo of himself in order to gain control of the controlled substances for himself. Swaine has been the subject of pervious actions by the board for testing positive for controlled substances. Given his past record, and this most recent disciplinary action, his medical license could stand to be revoked.
This isn't the first time Swaine has been in trouble with the law. In 2008, the Nevada State Medical Board revoked his license for drug-related offenses. In 2011, he was granted a limited license on the grounds that he stopped using drugs and alcohol. Under this limited license, he was prohibited from prescribing any controlled substances for his family, as he was accused of writing prescriptions for controlled substances for his wife, Jean Swaine, and his father-in-law, Crisostomo Oliveros. He was required to undergo random drug testing, and on January 30, 2014, he tested positive for amphetamines, benzodiazepine and opiates.
According to the Medical Board, he had violated the conditions of his limited license. They said that a summary suspension is required to eliminate the risk of imminent harm to the health, safety and well-being of the public.
