Bernie Kosar, former quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, was recently arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) in Solon, Ohio. Kosar was pulled over for speeding when the officer noted that he smelled of alcohol. Kosar was required to perform roadside exercises (sometimes call "Field Sobriety Tests"). Thereafter, he was arrested for Driving Under the Influence. Folloing his NFL career, Kosar went through a divorce and had significant financial difficulties. He previously admitted battling issues with alcohol and pain medications. However, before his arrest, Kosar had indicated that those issues were "in the past."
Driving Under the Influence (DUI) charges are taken very seriously in Nevada courts. First time DUI charges can bring heavy penalties including large fines, substantial community service, counseling and jail time. A third DUI conviction in seven (7) years or any DUI that results in substantial bodily harm or death to another carries a mandatory prison sentence.
Many people turn to alcohol and/or drugs as a coping mechanism when going through difficult times.
