Jenelle Evans, star of the MTV series Teen Mom, was arrested in North Carolina on April 23, 2013 for a number of charges including assault and drug possession. While responding to a call regarding a domestic disturbance, police reportedly discovered 12 individual packets of heroin in Evans' home. Reports also indicated that Evans was also found to be illegally in possession of prescription pain medications and illegal drug paraphernalia.
As to the call for Domestic Violence that led to the assault and possession charges, North Carolina police say that Evans struck her husband, Courtland Rogers, with a piece of furniture during an argument. When the police responded to a call reporting this assault they discovered the heroin and arrested both Evans and Courtland, who will be charged with possession of heroin with intent to manufacture, sell, and/or distribute.
In Nevada, Possession of a Controlled Substances is a serious felony offense. A felony conviction for simple drug possession arries the possibility of up to four (4) years in prison. It also can show up on future background checks and can negatively affect your employment and educational opportunities. Oftentimes possession charges are compounded, as they were for Evans, with additional unrelated charges for violent crimes (such as assault) or theft-related offenses (such as burglary, robbery, larceny or possession of stolen property).
