Daredevil Robbie Knievel, son of Evel Knievel, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) this week. Knievel was driving a motorhome in a campground when he struck two other vehicles. Knievel drove off, and was found later behind the wheel of the motorhome with the engine running. He was texting at the time. Knievel failed a series of roadside exercises and then blew a .22 on a breath test. He was arrested and booked for DUI. Knievel later admitted to the press that he is an alcoholic.
Driving Under the Influence cases are taken very seriously in Nevada. A third DUI within seven (7) years is a felony offense, which carries a mandatory prison sentence of up to six (6) years. Under some circumstances, a person charged with DUI 3d offense can be given an opportunity to participate in a diversionary program called the Serious Offender Program.
