Twenty-year-old Alicia Guastaferro, who starred in the series "Wife Swap" in 2008, was arrested in New York last week for Prostitution. She was allegedly caught having sex in a car with a fifty four-year-old attorney. The attorney was also arrested on charges of Driving Under the Influence (DUI/DWI), Providing Alcohol to an Underage Person and Patronizing a Prostitute. The attorney denied any wrong doing, but Guastaferro reportedly admitted that that she has known the attorney for approximately two (2) years and that he pays her approximately $500 to $750 for sex. Guastaferro is currently married, but they have been separated for several months and a divorce action is pending.
Most tourists who come to Las Vegas believe prostitution is legal. With nationwide advertising campaigns touting the "anything goes" reputation of Las Vegas, huge trucks rolling down the street advertising "HOT BABES STRAIGHT TO YOU" and pamphleteers on the sidewalks handing out a multitude of flyers with similar advertisements, it's not hard to see why people reasonably believe that prostitution is legal.
But, as many unfortunate visitors find out too late, Prostitution is not legal in Las Vegas or anywhere in Clark County, Nevada. In fact, the laws making Prostitution illegal in Las Vegas are very broad, making it illegal to even "solicit, offer or agree" to have sex in exchange for money.
