Rapper Nelly's tour bus was stopped and searched last night at a boarder patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Texas. Following the search, police retrieved thirty-six (36) baggies of heroin, ten (10) pounds of weed and a loaded .45 caliber pistol from the cabin. Nelly vehemently denies that the drugs are his and has recently released a statement implicating a passenger on the bus as the cause of this nightmare. Brian Keith Jones was arrested for his, to quote Nelly, "unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus. Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to bring these on board."
In Nevada, these types of drug possession and weapon offenses are taken extremely seriously. In fact, a conviction for possessing more than four (4) grams of a controlled substance other than marijuana is called Trafficking in a Controlled Substance and carries mandatory prison time, even if the person possessing the drugs was not selling or distributing. In this case, Nelly was fortunate that his bus-mate owned up to possessing the drugs. In other cases, people can end up being falsely accused of serious crimes as the result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
