Lenny Dykstra, a former all-star center fielder for the Mets and Phillies, was jailed this week on twenty-three (23) felony charges of three (3) counts of Grand Larceny Auto, five (5) counts of Attempted Grand Larceny Auto, eight (8) counts of Making False Financial Statements, four (4) counts of Identity Theft and three (3) counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Dykstra also faces misdemeanor charges for Possession of a Synthetic Growth Hormone without a Prescription and Possession of a Hypodermic Device. Bail was set at $500,000.00.
Dykstra was charged with Identity Theft, False Financial Statements, Grand Larceny Auto and Attempted Grand Larceny Auto in connection with an alleged scheme to lease vehicles based on false information. It is also alleged that Dykstra and his co-offenders provided the lessor with information from a supposed co-signer, who had not given them permission to use their personal information. A search warrant was served on Dykstra's home where police discovered Cocaine and Ecstasy. If convicted on all charges, Dykstra faces up to twelve (12) years in State Prison.
Dykstra had recently been released from federal custody on $150,000.00 bail. Dykstra's federal charges include Bankruptcy Fraud, Obstruction of Justice, Concealing Property from a Bankruptcy Estate (4 counts), Embezzlement from a Bankruptcy Estate (3 counts), and Making False Declarations to a Bankruptcy Court (4 counts). Dykstra could face up to eighty years (80) years in connection with the federal charges.
