Four Juveniles Arrested for School Vandalism

Four juveniles were arrested this week for allegedly committing $10,000.00 in damage to Mojave High School. The juveniles, all of whom were between 16 and 17 years old, are alleged to have broken doors, ransacked offices and spray painted walls within the school. The police who arrested the juveniles recommended felony charges including Burglary and Malicious Destruction of Property.

While teenagers may look like adults and may believe they are adults, they still think like children in many respects. Research shows that brain development is not completed until a person reaches their twenties, and the part of the brain that controls judgment and decision making is the last part of the brain to develop.

Juvenile convictions, especially felony charges such as Burglary, can have serious and life-long consequences. Convictions (also called "adjudications") for delinquent charges can affect a teenagers educational and career opportunities. Convictions can result in the young person being ineligible for some college programs, military service or a career in law enforcement. Some charges can remain on an offender's record until they are thirty (30) years old.
